From allyship to action: Empowering leaders of colour
Join us for an event hosted by Careers in Colour (CiC) and Deloitte focused on exploring ways to transform allyship into action that actively supports and empowers First Nations and racially and culturally diverse people in the workplace.
Everyone can be an active ally. To be an active ally, it takes everyday action during moments that matter. We will be exploring the difference between sponsorship and mentorship, and the practical steps leaders can take to enable success for First Nations and racially and culturally diverse talent.
There is often misunderstanding about what it means to be a mentor vs being a sponsor. Mentors are an important part of a workplace. But sponsors are crucial in actively supporting career advancement for First Nations and culturally and racially diverse people who face systemic barriers in the workplace. Mentors can provide valuable guidance and advice, but being an active champion to a sponsee during important decision-making moments can make a huge difference in progressing their career.
This panel will feature senior leaders in Australia, and advocates for racial and cultural inclusion, who will speak to their successes, challenges and the key role that active allies should play in actively advancing First Nations and racially and culturally diverse people in their careers. Walk away with a guide to being an active ally and hear real life examples from the panel, plus the opportunity to connect and network with other attendees.
This is an in-person event jointly hosted by Careers in Colour and Deloitte on Tuesday 20 August, 5:30pm - 7:30pm (AEST) at Deloitte offices in Melbourne.
Nibbles and drinks will be provided.
What the event will be covering
- Storytelling from senior leaders about their leadership journey, challenges and successes

About Careers in Colour
Careers in Colour emerged as a grass roots response to the continued, and well-documented under-representation of people of colour and cultural diversity in Australia’s senior leadership. Our purpose is to support people of colour by running community initiatives that provide pathways to effect positive change in their careers, workplaces, and beyond - focusing on industries and sectors of influence in Australia. We aim to contribute to a future where Australian workplaces reflect the diversity of the broader Australian community, provide equitable opportunities, and maximise the potential of our multicultural workforce.
