Discover the beauty hidden in bamboo and transform this remarkable plant into something useful, beautiful, and entirely your own.

Join bamboo artist Charissa Brock in her Beaverton studio for a hands-on workshop exploring three ways to turn the natural shape of bamboo into a handmade vessel. Surrounded by original bamboo artwork, you'll discover how this versatile plant can become functional art through thoughtful cutting, heat preparation, and creative design.

Unlike materials that must be shaped from scratch, bamboo offers its own beautiful forms, curves, nodes, and natural character. In this class, you'll learn to recognize the possibilities within a piece of bamboo and work with its natural structure to create a vessel that celebrates the material itself.

Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you'll learn how to cut bamboo, prepare it using heat, and transform it into a vessel using three different approaches. Each technique offers its own possibilities for form, function, and design. You'll gain practical skills while discovering how small decisions in cutting and preparation can reveal entirely different qualities in the material.

Your finished vessels might become a flower holder, a beautiful container for personal treasures, or a distinctive addition to your home. Depending on its construction and finish, a vessel may also inspire future projects in functional tableware.

Whether you're drawn to natural materials, enjoy making things by hand, or are curious about bamboo beyond its familiar uses, this workshop offers a chance to explore a remarkable plant in a new way.
