Ever wanted to know what it actually takes to direct a film?
Skip the theory and get hands-on experience directing actors, cameras and a real film set in Monash Film Society's From Chair to Film: An Introduction to Directing.
No prior experience needed!
In this practical three-hour workshop, you will learn how to:
🎬 Direct actors - communicate with performers and shape a scene
📷 Direct the camera - work with a cinematographer and camera operators to bring your vision to life
🎙️ Communicate on set - learn how directors actually communicate with their crew
🎥 Work with a real cinema camera - get hands-on with a Blackmagic PYXIS 6K
🎞️ Put it all together - take part in practical exercises with film actors present in-workshop and a simulated film set
Led by festival-selected filmmaker Himalaya Joshi, with AFTRS directing training under his belt, and camera operator Kenneth Weng, with various professional shoots in his portfolio, this is an opportunity to learn the practical side of directing that you rarely get to experience without expensive film-school courses - and that too through award-winning filmmakers.
