From Circuit to Code: Under the hood of analog modelling
Event description
Join us for a special presentation and Sundowner with Andrew Simper. Andrew started writing music software while studying at UWA for a joint honours degree in Maths & Computer Science, which he completed in 1994. In 2004, he moved to London to write music software professionally at Fxpansion, where he started to specialise in analysing and emulating analog music circuits, to the critical acclaim of customers and music tech press. Andrew left Fxpansion in 2009 to start his own company, Cytomic. His continued R&D into digital modelling of analog circuits, concentrating on automating the process to allow for increasingly detailed and complicated models. Although Cytomic has collaborated on projects with big brands like Ableton & Moog, his focus is on releasing products under the Cytomic banner. This presentation is about solving non-linear systems of equations to model the desirable behaviour of analog circuits is at the heart of a lot of modern audio DSP. This talk will look under the hood of how these equations are solved numerically and discuss the trade-offs of various approaches by using practical examples. |
