Description

This practical twilight training is designed for educators, teaching assistants, and support staff working with autistic pupils and learners with complex communication needs. Drawing on evidence-based approaches to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), participants will explore how shared reading, structured writing opportunities, and communication boards can be used to create inclusive, engaging, and meaningful literacy experiences for all learners.

The session focuses on developing communication, participation, and literacy through a combination of low-tech and high-tech AAC strategies, ensuring pupils can actively contribute, interact, and demonstrate their understanding regardless of their spoken language abilities. Based on approaches such as the 4 Ps of AAC, dialogic reading, Predictable Chart Writing, and voice-output technologies, the training equips staff with practical tools that can be implemented immediately within the classroom.

This module has been accredited by the NCFE and can be considered when working towards the NCFE Award. Participants are required to complete five modules, including the mandatory module.
