From Conflict to Connection: 2 Day Foundations Training in Compassionate/Nonviolent Communication

Event description

What is Violent Communication?

If “violent” means acting in ways that result in hurt or harm, then much of how we communicate - judging others, bullying, racial profiling, blaming, finger pointing, discriminating against others, speaking without listening, criticizing, name-calling, reacting when angry, using political rhetoric, being defensive or judging who’s “good/bad” or what’s “right/wrong” with people, could indeed be called 'violent communication'.

What is Nonviolent Communication?

Nonviolent Communication is the integration of 4 things:

📌 Consciousness: a set of principles that support living a life of empathy, care, courage, and authenticity

📌 Language: understanding how words contribute to connection or distance

📌 Communication: knowing how to ask for what we want, how to hear others even in disagreement, and how to move toward solutions that work for all

📌 Means of influence: sharing 'power with others' rather than using 'power over others'

Nonviolent Communication serves our desire to do three things:

1. Increase our ability to live with choice, meaning, and connection

2. Connect empathically with self and others to have more satisfying relationships

3. Sharing of resources so everyone is able to benefit

Would you like to create more enriching and vital relationships, resolve long-standing inner conflicts, listen more deeply and express yourself more fully?

If so then join us for this fun and interactive 2 Day workshop where we learn and practice these important life skills together!

What is Nonviolent Communication ('NVC')?

Nonviolent Communication (also called Compassionate Communication) is an approach to developing skills which help us to improve all relationships, both personal and professional.

NVC was created by the late American psychologist, mediator, author and teacher Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960's and was first widely released in his ground-breaking book "Nonviolent Communication - A Language of Life" in 2003.

Today, NVC is taught and practiced around the world, with over 700 Certified Trainers committed to sharing Marshall's teaching with the world.

The benefits of practicing NVC are widespread, helping individuals, families and organisations to reduce conflict, foster trust, deepen emotional connections, heal pain and strengthen personal empowerment.

Over the course of two days, you will learn how to:

✔️ Easily identify and express your feelings

✔️ Put your own needs first, without sacrificing the needs of others

✔️ Say no with ease

✔️ Know when you need to set a boundary, and how to do it

✔️ Become comfortable with confrontation, knowing that you have the tools to avoid conflict or offending others

✔️ Trust yourself and your decisions more

✔️ Take your power back over your feelings (no more - “you make me so angry!”)

✔️ Find peace even when another person’s feelings and behaviour are challenging you

✔️ Heal from pain suffered as a result of criticism from parents, siblings, partner or ex-partner

✔️ Have greater success at work as you clearly express yourself and get the recognition you desire

✔️ Find peace by understanding that you don’t need to fix others problems, and what to do instead

✔️ Adopt loving self-talk to help overcome perfectionistic attitudes

✔️ Let go of judgemental thoughts, to achieve a peaceful mind

✔️ Have higher self-esteem, confidence and belief in yourself

✔️ Use giving as an act of love, rather than as a means to get something you want

✔️ Create more emotional safety and intimacy in your personal connections, leading to greater fulfillment
