From idea to proof-of-concept: the R&D ecosystem supporting innovation

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Join us for an evening of panel discussion about how our national R&D ecosystem supports innovation across various industry sectors, followed by a networking event with light refreshments. Panel members are representatives from National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) funded organisations that form a national network of critical research infrastructure. NCRIS gives researchers and industry access to advanced equipment, data and expertise to embrace new technologies and develop high value-added products and services for the global marketplace.

Schedule:

4:30 – 5:00pm – Pre-event networking

5:00 – 6:00pm – Panel Discussion, Q&A

6:00 – 7:00pm – Networking

Panel participants:

Moderator: Dr Navin Chandrasekaran, Australian National Fabrication Facility [ANFF]: Navin has a background in research commercialisation, research co-ordination, and business development in addition to several of his own patents and papers. Following a PhD in Biotechnology at UQ, Navin transitioned into business development roles where he helped to secure grants for clients, organise commercially relevant workshops, and to prepare R&D for investment opportunities. In his role with ANFF, Navin helps Australian businesses unlock their R&D potential through facilitating access to cutting edge capabilities across various disciplines including(but not restricted to) quantum technologies, semiconductors, microfluidics, photonics, materials often resulting in game-changing real-world applications.

Dr Simon Hager, Microscopy Australia: Simon has over 15 years electron microscopy experience and has worked at the UNSW node of Microscopy Australia for 9 years. He has guided hundreds of university researchers and companies through the process of accessing electron microscopy for a diverse range of projects. Microscopy Australia can help solve technical challenges through microscopic imaging and analysis. Their experts provide imaging and analytical solutions for R&D, QA, failure analysis, process improvements, patent support, non-destructive analysis, and persuasive promotional images. With facilities around Australia and clients ranging from mining machinery manufacturers to start-ups making medical devices, Microscopy Australia is here to support businesses with their R&D needs.

Dr Ceri Brenner, ANSTO Centre for Accelerator Science [CAS]: Ceri leads ANSTO’s Centre for Accelerator Science – a national user facility dedicated to driving forward knowledge, innovation, and informing policy, in areas such as environment, climate and health sciences, space technologies, advanced materials for energy, nuclear and quantum materials, and cultural heritage studies. Users across Australia and the world access CAS expertise and a suite of ion beam accelerator instrumentation for ultra-sensitive isotope and element analysis, and precision irradiation applications that enable research and industry communities to explore the past, monitor the present, and design solutions and technology for the future. Prior to starting at ANSTO last year, Ceri was Group Leader for Industry Partnerships and Innovation at the Central Laser Facility in the UK, after completing a PhD in laser-plasma ion acceleration in 2012.

You will find this event interesting if you are,

  1. Keen to know about Australia’s national network of research infrastructure that is here to support to your project.
  2. Looking for cost-effective strategies for developing your next breakthrough technology.
  3. Passionate about supercharging your organisation’s R&D capabilities.
  4. Looking for technical support in demonstrating proof-of-concept for your innovation.
