From Idea to Story! An Adult Workshop:

As part of the Campbelltown Writers' Competition 2026, aspiring writers aged 15 and older can elevate their skills in "Crafting your Story," an advanced creative writing workshop run by Michael Caleb Tasker. Drawing from his extensive professional background as a journalist, lecturer, and author of the short-story collection 'All Gone Now', Michael will guide participants through the core mechanics of narrative structure. This engaging session challenges attendees to explore their unique creativity and develop compelling short stories centered around the central competition theme of "Connections."

This is a free workshop, but bookings are required. This workshop is suitable for participants aged 15 years to adults.

About the host:

Michael Caleb Tasker was born in Montreal, Canada and has lived in New Orleans, Buenos Aires, Sydney and elsewhere. He earned a PhD from Newcastle University, focusing on the existential roots of noir, and has worked as a journalist, ranch-hand, lecturer, and currently manages an art supplies store. Author of the short-story collection All Gone Now, he currently lives in Adelaide, with his daughter.

About the Campbelltown Writer's Competition

The annual Campbelltown Writer’s Competition is on again and writers from across South Australia are invited to submit their original stories inspired by the theme of Connections. Entries can be fiction or non-fiction but must not exceed 2,500 words and must have a link to the Campbelltown area, a Campbelltown resident or references to the City of Campbelltown. All genres and styles welcome.

Entries open Saturday 1 August at 9am and close 11pm Sunday 20 September, 2026

This competition is facilitated by Campbelltown City Council and judged by Writer's SA.

As Campbelltown Library marks 50 years of learning, creativity, and community spirit, this theme highlights how libraries connect people across generations, interests, and experiences. From local gatherings to digital networks, Connections honours the many ways we come together and continue to grow as a community.
