Has Your Career Development Service Kept Pace? Benchmarking Quality in a Changing World of Work
Description
The world of work is changing rapidly. AI and automation are reshaping occupations and tasks. Career pathways are becoming less linear. People are navigating more transitions across their working lives, while organisations face increasing pressure to demonstrate impact, accessibility, responsiveness, and quality.
Against that backdrop, a bigger question arises for every organisation delivering career development services:
How do you know your service is keeping pace?
You may have experienced practitioners. You may have strong programs, good resources and positive client feedback. But how confident are you that quality is embedded across the whole service, not just dependent on particular people, individual programs or established ways of doing things?
Could your team clearly explain:
What is your career development service trying to achieve, and how does that reflect the changing needs of clients and stakeholders?
Whether client outcomes are being monitored beyond immediate participation, placement or satisfaction measures?
How is staff capability being developed and supported?
Are your resources, digital tools, and use of AI contemporary, evidence-informed, and appropriate?
How effectively does your service engage people who may be harder to reach or at risk of disengagement?
Do partnerships genuinely strengthen client outcomes?
How does your service identify what needs to improve, and do those improvements become embedded over time?
These questions aren't about compliance for compliance’s sake. They ask whether the systems behind your service are strong enough to consistently support quality career development.
In this practical 30-minute webinar, CICA will introduce the new Career Development Service Benchmarking Resource, an all-sector quality improvement instrument designed to help organisations critically examine how well they implement and sustain quality career development services.
The Resource moves the conversation from “Do we provide a good service?” to the more useful questions: “What evidence tells us that? How consistently do we do it? And what should we improve next?”
You will be introduced to its five elements and fourteen outcomes, covering service purpose and direction, client focus, people and resources, partnerships and community contribution, and improvement and innovation.
You will also see how the progressive four-point scale, Emerging, Developing, Establishing and Embedding, helps organisations distinguish between having processes on paper and having quality genuinely understood and embedded across the organisation.
Importantly, this process is not an audit, and it is not about reviewing everything at once.
The Resource is designed around a manageable, team-based continuous improvement process that encourages organisations to select three or four outcomes most relevant to their current priorities and use the Plan–Do–Study–Act cycle to turn reflection into practical action.
Whether you work in a school, university, TAFE or RTO, employment service, community organisation or private practice, the Resource provides a structured way to step back from day-to-day delivery and ask an important question:
If we were designing our career development service today, for the world our clients are navigating now, would we design it the same way?
If that question makes you stop and think, this session is for you.
Register to attend and discover how the CICA Career Development Service Benchmarking Resource can help your organisation establish a clear baseline, identify meaningful priorities for improvement, and build quality that is not only delivered but also sustained.
This session is repeated on 5 November at 10 am AEDT
