From Paint to Pixels: AI & The Creative Industries
Event description
Until late 2022 you would have been forgiven for thinking that the creative industries were pretty safe from AI disruption. That was going to be the fate of all the repetitive tasks in the world, the drudgery of wrangling spreadsheets, and interpreting medical scans, right? ...right?
Well, it turned out that a lot of those repetitive tasks are in fact surprisingly expensive to build robots for.
But give an AI some natural language processing skillz and a massive database of images, and you've got yourself a machine that does a sometimes scarily good job of producing realistic images from text prompts.
This AI&U event will be all about what it means for YOU, as someone who works in the creative industries, as an artist, designer, creative technologist, photographer, architect etc? Anyone who sees themselves as creative is probably feeling something on the spectrum between excitement and fear at the moment. But rest assured, you are not alone.
Come by The Chippo for what promises to be an insightful fireside chat where art and tech collides:
- Jessica Priebe -Â Art historian and lecturer in emerging technologies at the National Art School
- Jamie Sissons - Founder of Absolutely AI creative content agency
- Jessica Claire Edwards - Creative technologist at Canva
who will be speaking with our host John Allsopp of Web Directions, on the opportunities and challenges that have been surfaced by AI image generation tools, as well as a raft of other emerging technologies.
