From Story to Stage: A Spoken Word Workshop

Ever noticed how your favourite songs tell stories? This workshop series for young people aged 18-25 explores how to transform personal experiences into compelling spoken word performances.

Over five sessions at Piara Waters Library, you'll learn the fundamentals of rhythm, wordplay, and narrative structure while developing your creative voice. Through freestyle exercises and collaborative activities, you'll build confidence in both creative writing and public speaking.

The workshop series will culminate in a Spoken Word showcase as part of the City of Armadale ‘Let’s Chill!” Youth Event on Thursday 2 April, giving you an opportunity to present and professionally record your original work.

Thanks to funding from the City of Armadale these workshops are free to attend - so if you live, work or study in the City of Armadale, we strongly encourage you to register!

No prior experience necessary. Just bring your stories and an open mind. Materials and light snacks will be provided.

About the facilitator

Jake Dennis @PoetOfJazz is a Burmese-Australian entertainer (singer, actor, poet) and educator based in Boorloo/Perth. JD’s prize-winning poetry has been published in over 100 publications across 14 countries. A passionate, endearing, and hard-working creative professional with over twenty-five years of showbusiness credits, Jake Dennis captivates audiences with heartfelt soulful live performances.
