Fruit Tea Workshop

Join Alyssa Powell-Ascura as she facilitates a public program in response to Allison Chhorn's latest solo exhibition at Nexus Arts Gallery, Fruit Tree Sun.

Centred in this gathering is tea making, story sharing and reflections on inheritance. With ingredients inspired by Allison's own maternal backyard, the garden becomes a metaphor for her family’s maternal history in Australia.

Working together for the first time for Fruit Tree Sun, the artists aim to find the intersections where their practice, histories and current cultural contexts meet and ask the question of: what do we inherit, and how do we choose what to pass on? 

The participants are invited to try a customised tea, blended by both Alyssa and Allison, based on seasonal harvest. Afterwards, participants will then have the opportunity to create their own tea blend to take home, as they share stories on what they have inherited across generations and what they're planning on passing on to future generations.

Note: The Non-Loaning Community Library will have a selection of relevant books available to read during the event.

Participants are encouraged to bring something they have inherited from family, this can be a physical item or a food item/snack that they have prepared and wish to share with others.

Materials: All materials for tea making will be supplied. Afternoon tea snacks are also available.
