Sat, 3 May, 10am - 12pm AEST

Event description

Fruit trees can give you a generous amount of fruit but they need to be well looked after if you want to grow as much fruit as possible every year. In this outdoor workshop, learn basic fruit tree maintenance skills such as pruning. This demonstration will take place in the beautiful garden of Horseshoe Bend Community Farm and presenters Fruit Tree Folk will teach you how to maintain your fruit trees year-round.

Accessibility: The area around the garden is mostly flat, but since it is a farm, there is some uneven ground and single steps to navigate. We will be walking in the garden where there is limited seating opportunities so you may be standing for long periods of time. Please wear appropriate clothing such as closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and a hat. In the event of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.

This workshop is a part of the Olives to Oil Westside series of events - There are plenty of olive trees throughout the western suburbs, so grab some olives from a local olive tree, drop them off at one of our local Drop-Off events in May and then pickup our fresh blend of communally pressed olive oil on June 1.

Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.

If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you.

This My Smart Garden event is proudly presented by Brimbank City Council on the land of Wurundjeri and Boon Wurung peoples of the Kulin nation. My Smart Garden pays our respect to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledges that First Nations peoples have cared for Country sustainably for tens of thousands of years.
