Fun with shadows at Ferrymead
Event description
The event takes place in the lovely little picture theatre at Ferrymead Heritage Park...so, full of atmosphere.
The well known song “The Old Lady who swallowed a fly” is performed on a small home theatre type booth to give an understanding of the possibilities of shadow puppet theatre. This carries us through to the next step of how to recreate the magic at home.
We progress through hand shadows and how to make a shadow puppet with colour. Then the children and caregivers move across the street to Kinsey Cottage to create their own shadow puppets with a kit. This means all the children will be creating a puppet, and will have the kit to take home to carry on creating. The experience culminates in children actually showing us what fun they can have with manipulating their puppets themselves and giving us a parade.
