Want to develop your interest as an artist and looking for a place to start? Whether you want to make artwork that is realistic or abstract, all art shares the same fundamentals.

Beginning with traditional forms of drawing, this 7-week class will start by teaching comparative measurement and drawing from direct observation. Next this class will teach students how to work with photographs and use cameras as a means of augmenting their creativity instead of limiting it. Finally, this class will teach students how to find inspiration from various sources throughout art history and set students down the path towards understanding composition.

At the end of the class an exhibition with the students ‘artwork will be held at the Book Hill Georgetown library.

Syllabus:

Week 1 (Jul 11) Master Copy Bargue Drawing- Introduce Comparative Measurement

Week 2 (Jul 18) Master Copy Bargue Drawing- Understanding hard and soft edges

Week 3 (Jul 25) Still Life- Comparative Measurement, Drawing from Direct Observation.

Week 4 (Aug 1) Still Life- Understanding Light and shadow. Blending with Pencils

Week 5 (Aug 15) Landscape- Composition, Working from photo.

Week 6 (Aug 22) Personal Projects

Week 7 (Aug 29) Personal Projects

Bio

William Demaria is a Baltimore based artist who has always loved drawing and traditional oil painting. He finds the process of creating artwork itself to be beautiful and has always been interested in studying the way artwork is made. He believes that every student, no matter their skill level, has an individual voice that should be developed. His teaching style is flexible and the pace of his classes adapts to suite individual students needs
