Fundamentals of IHL & Contemporary Issues in Armed Conflict
Event description
The Tasmanian International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Advisory Committee of the Australian Red Cross is hosting an event on the Fundamentals of IHL and Contemporary Issues in Armed Conflict.
This event is intended to give university and college students insight into international humanitarian law, and how it works in the 21st Century, by analysing various issues that are presented by the modern age. Running from 10 - 4.30pm on the 28th of November, this intensive seminar is broken into five parts.
Workshop: An introduction to the fundamentals of international humanitarian law
Expert panel 1: The role of the media in armed conflict
Expert panel 2: Providing medical and humanitarian aid in conflict zones
Expert panel 3: Applying the laws of war to new and emerging technologies
Expert panel 4: The protection of cultural property under international humanitarian law
Each session will be run by experts in that area of IHL, and include brief lectures and a Q&A.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have a limited number of spaces so get in quick!
Speakers will include Red Cross Legal Advisors, academics and those with practical experience in the reality of IHL and armed conflict.
