Event description

What are the laws of war and how do they protect people impacted by conflict?

The Fundamentals of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is a three-hour introductory course, providing participants with a broad overview of IHL and its intrinsic link to the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

Led by expert academics and legal practitioners, this course gives an accessible, yet comprehensive, introduction to the laws of war. It covers:

  • the history of IHL and the development and essential content of the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols;
  • the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in times of armed conflict
  • Red Cross' Fundamental Principles and protective emblems;
  • how the military applies the law; and,
  • the mechanisms available when the law is breached.

If you are interested in understanding more about how the law protects in times of war, register today. No prior knowledge or experience in IHL, Red Cross or legal studies is required for this course.
*CPD approval (ethics and substantive law) pending with the Legal Practice Board of WA. Please indicate if you intend to claim CPD points for this course at time of booking.
