    Event description

    Ages 14+ | 5.30 to 8.30PM on Tuesdays

Begins October 25th and continues for 8 weeks

    Fundamentals

Artistic fundamentals are stepping stones on visual artists of all types' journeys. Learning to accurately observe and record the world around us gives us the tool-set, confidence and motivation to move into other artistic areas, be they cartooning, tattooing, photography, etc.

Professional artist and dedicated teacher Danny Stanley (See his portfolio here), leads this small and diverse group of artists every Tuesday evening for eight weeks, with plenty of useful theory, and most importantly, exercises and individual feedback, which ensure that each student understands. With a three hour runtime for each class, and attention to creating a warm, friendly and positive environment, Fundamentals classes also teach students to relax and enjoy the act of creating.

    Spring Term

This will be a combined painting, drawing & sculpting term, with students deciding to draw or paint depending on where they are at in their journey, and with the additional option of sculpture. There will be a painting and a drawing side of the room, with the groups sometimes doing the same activity and sometimes different. A key part of studio-based art training is the interaction between students and the teacher, who takes into account each individual's progress and difficulties, and offers personalised feedback, demonstrations and exercises as required.

In terms of materials, drawing will require minimal resources, with some paper and pencils supplied. An A3 pad of drawing paper would be good, and a hardcover, bound A4 sketchbook is an excellent thing to keep and sketch in, though we will generally work in A3 in class.

Materials lists for painting will be discussed in the first lesson. All students will begin working in greyscale, and each student will have the ability to choose whether to move into colour. We will be using water-based paints.

Sculpting students will work in polymer (oven-bake) clay.

    Campgrounds Cafe Showcase

At the end of the term, students will have the opportunity to showcase some of their best work at a mini exhibition at Campgrounds Cafe.

    Who is this for?

Led by trained professionals with an abundance of experience and expertise, these classes are useful for any artist, be they total beginner or working professional. Different styles and interests are catered for, with a focus on learning the universal visual language of the world around us, which can have infinite applications in artistic expression. We at TAA strongly believe that not only is creating art enjoyable, the act of learning, and improving our understanding of the world around us is excellent for one's mental health and spirituality.
