Description

Femicide – the intentional killing of a woman because of her gender is the most extreme and brutal form of violence against women and girls. In Australia, femicide is a national crisis with a woman killed every four days on average. Most perpetrators are men, and usually someone they know. Indigenous women are disproportionately victimised.

Australian Femicide Watch records and maps the women killed. These women are only a small proportion of those subjected to violence, usually from an intimate partner.

She Matters charts the names and stories from some of these women.

Australian Femicide Watch and the RED HEART campaign support those affected by femicide and provide media and advocacy training and housing for domestic violence survivors.

You can donate directly to this campaign.
