Event description

Join us to help dance teacher Joshinder launch her amazing doco-movie CRONES - As one woman boldly pursues her dream, it has a ripple effect on another!

"This feature documentary film champions energized older women with dreams; who continue to learn, grow and contribute, and who still have unfulfilled dreams that they are pursuing. A wholesome and empowering film that is wrapped in joy, shattering stereotypes about older women. Plus, it reclaims the word Crone, which has been distorted over time, but in fact means the wise woman.

This documentary is almost five years in the making, and will finish production in October 2024. It is a 100% self-funded and indie project. However, NOW, we need your help to take it to the finishing line. We need to raise money for post-production.

ALSO – we are looking for an experienced producer, who could offer expertise in reaching the right sales agent, or meeting with a streaming service, connections to festivals etc. And a PR person or marketing expert with film experience.

To accomplish this, we are hosting a fund-raising event! Woohooo!" Joshinder says.

At this event, we will screen the director, Joshinder Chaggar’s award winning short doc – More Than Cute, that similarly unpacks age through the lens of a Bollywood dance class. It is a joyous and uplifting film, intercultural and intergenerational, highlighting the power of dance and community.

We will also see a preview for Crones, have snacks and chai and a Q&A with Joshinder. You can follow the movie here.

If you can't come to this event but would still like to help Crones get made, you can participate in Joshinder's raffle or donate to the project here.

    Who is behind de documentary?

    JOSHINDER CHAGGAR

    Director – Producer - Cinematographer

I am a lover of story-telling, empowering women, making people laugh, and resisting labels. I am currently finishing up a PhD doctorate, where my research intersects my intercultural identity with story-telling and calling people in. My first film in 2022, More Than Cute, a 15-min doc, won Best Documentary at the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival (New York), and was an official selection at film festivals in Melbourne, London, Mumbai, Karachi, Lahore & Islamabad. It unpacks age and highlights how dance can help form communities. I am currently directing, producing and shooting my first feature doc, that focuses on celebrating older women. I have worked in the dance and theatre industry for the past 17 years, and specifically with the senior community since 2018. In 2020, 2021 and 2022, I received two government grants to run wellness classes for the seniors and elderly communities, as relief during COVID lockdown. I am now transferring these passions and experience of writing, production and direction into films.

    ERIKA MARTINEZ

Her passions lie in creating safe spaces through the stories they help tell and the environments she creates. Her most notable work comes from co-producing the award-winning short, "The Astronaut", which she helped secure funding, location, and talent. “the Astronaut” won Diversity and Inclusion for NASA'S Cinespace competition and Best Microfilm for Independent Short Awards. It was also screened at multiple film festivals, such as Culver city, Santa Monica International, Independent short awards, Cinespace, New Filmmakers Los Angeles Fest, Cinequest, Venice Shorts, Fantasy and Sci-Fi Film Fest. She is currently producing the upcoming sci fi short, "Sweet Dreams". Erika's ultimate goal with her work is to help people feel seen, heard, and understood, whether that comes from her own writings, creating collaborative environments, or working alongside others to make their passionate dreams a reality
