This is big for anyone and absolutely huge for me. There are Oscar winners in the other nominations. I've won awards and been nominated already this year for the same film, in film festivals in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Rhode Island, London and Athens, none of which I have been able to get to, and some of which don’t have an actual awards night, but Septimius does, and they want me in the room. And I want to be in the room with my partner by my side, with the finest of the international film industry. It’s an opportunity to make the connections needed in order to make work that is world class.

Since graduating from Guildhall School, apart from Spooks and Hotel Babylon in London, all of my screen work has been in Shanghai, Adelaide and Sydney, so it is phenomenal to be recognised around the world for this film which was shot in a one room apartment in King’s Cross, Sydney during lockdown, about a guy who’s in a pretty dark place which is getting darker until a glimmer of light gets in.

The director picked up his coffee from the same lockdown cafe as me, and one morning he introduced me to a friend of his, saying I was an actor. She said show me something, so I took off my mask and gave her “Now is the winter of our discontent…” in my dressing gown on the street. He said, “Let’s make a film.”

It’s called I Am. The director is Marcus Graham, the company is AI Films, and if this does well on the circuit they have bigger budget films in the pipeline.

I’m holding a fundraising event here in Sydney next Friday 15th, with my nearest and dearest down under hosted at our rehearsal studio in Alexandria. Those who aren’t able to make it in person, please buy a ticket (or 20 anyway) to help raise the thousands or dollars needed. It's massive I know, and I want to be at the Septimius Awards because they are massive, and this is massive for me. If you’re able to contribute, I would be very very grateful, and look forward to naming you in my acceptance speech!

Thank you for your patience with me while my acting career advances, and I look forward to sharing much more with you in the future.

With my love,
Charles / Charlie / Charles Bear / Sabah / Fubs
