Funk, Soul & Indie Night with STRANGE ROOSTER + Astrovan

This is a show guaranteed to have the dance floor full, from start to finish. 

Our headline band this month is STRANGE ROOSTER, a fabulous, powerhouse 9-piece band with a hectic horn section, playing an eclectic mix of Funk and Soul classics. These guys bring the heat with a fiery mix of unforgettable grooves, from Bowie to Blood Sweat & Tears. Hear forgotten classics like ‘Groove Me’, ‘The Letter’ and ‘Move On Up’. Hits from the Average White Band, Curtis Mayfield, Golden Earing, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Tower of Power all get a run.

This is music to get you moving from a high-energy collective featuring some of Sydney’s finest musicians, each a master of his individual craft. The stella Strange Rooster line-up features vocalist, Eddie Chedra, Simon Morel - Guitar/Vocals, Mark Clifford – Keyboard, Michael Quigley – Drums, Zac Carmody - Bass/Vocals, Danny Carmichael – Trumpet, Martin Taylor – Trombone, Dave Bell - Tenor Sax and Nick Bowd - Baritone Sax.

What really sets these guys apart is a rock-solid rhythm section, powerful vocals and a horn section that will blow your mind! They create an electrifying atmosphere that is tight, dynamic and soulful, all at once. Opening the night is a band that wowed us when they played our first ever show at The Bally back in July last year for Council’s ‘Creative Open’. ASTROVAN were then fresh out of school, so eight months later, they’re now seasoned pros. when it comes to this music thing.

ASTROVAN first came to our notice when they won the 2024 Northern Composure 19 and Under Council band competition. With an emphasis on composition and original song writing, ASTROVAN plays a special brand of Indie Rock, with a sound that is very much their own. They pride themselves on playing a dynamic and tight live set, with performances at venues across Sydney winning them many highly loyal and dedicated fans.
