Join us in Parliament for a kōrero about the challenges our democratic system currently faces; and the opportunities that lie ahead. What innovations can we explore to improve social cohesion? How can we foster deeper civic engagement to ensure greater representation? As Citizens, how can we begin to change the democratic systems that govern all of our lives - for the better?

We'll be kicking things off with a panel discussion made up of a diverse range of experiences related to our Democracy:

Max Rashbrooke; Journalist, Author, and TED talker. Max has spent more time thinking about how we can upgrade our Democracy than almost anyone in Aotearoa, and he paints an exciting picture of what the future might hold.

Nīkau Wi Neera; Councillor for Te Whanganui-a-Tara Māori WardNīkau brings a rich lived experience as someone who has stood as a candidate in our current representative democracy, currently serves as a WCC Councillor, in fact serving as the inaugural representative for Wellington's Māori ward.

Kassie Hartendorp; Director at Action Station. Kassie is an avid activist, working tirelessly to ensure citizen's voices are heard on a range of social and environmental issues. Kassie's experience in this space can provide insight into citizen engagement, with activism being a crucial and often under-valued arm of our democratic systems.

From there, we'll all break out into a co-creation session - taking the ideas and concepts discussed earlier in the evening and working to identify how we can bring these ideas to life. You'll be joined by our panelists, and in groups of 5-10, we'll collectively chart a course to the Future of Democracy 🙌
