They'll explore everything from fibre and fabric advancements, the social and environmental impacts of supply chains, to the future of shopping.

Dr Zoe Mellick

Zoe is a Lecturer in Fashion in the School of Design, QUT. She recently completed an industry-funded PhD which looked at how global value chain members perceive Australian cotton’s sustainable value. Her research aims to extend understandings around sustainability and its value and identify practices that can further sustainability within the industry. Zoe also has over a decade of experience in retail with Australian fashion brands, and works with industry as a sustainability and impact advisor.

Dr Tiziana Ferrero-Regis

Dr Tiziana Ferrero-Regis is Associate Professor of Fashion in the School of Design at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Tiziana combines a professional background in the fashion industry and creative industries in Milan (including at Condé Nast – Vogue Italy), with a transdisciplinary background in fashion studies and sustainability. She has published widely on fashion and culture and the Australian textile industry. Her research focusses on the social implications of sustainability in a local context through spatial and anthropological approaches. Her latest publication is Staging fashion: The spaces of the fashion show, Bloomsbury, and “Castoff from the West, Pearls in Kantamanto? A Critique of Second-hand Clothes trade”, in the Journal of Industrial Ecology. Tiziana is the co-leader of QUT’s TextileR Centre and a chief investigator in QUT’s Centre for a Waste-Free World.

Lydia Pearson

For over 30 years Lydia ran an all-consuming and life affirming fashion business. As half of Easton Pearson, she developed a reputation for light-hearted, unconventionally decorative, trendless clothing and built a devoted clientele in many countries around the world, including selling to many of the world's most recognized stores, including Browns of London, Bergdorf Goodman in New York, and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. Moving into Academia at QUT a number of years ago, she is now fully immersed in the futures of the most promising design students, guiding them in their studio practice and collection development. Aways creating, with a passionate interest in fabric, decorative technique, artisanal making, and independent design, Lydia is also half of the design team for ShiloLydia - an experimental design brand re-inventing how we design, make and preserve clothing.

Cate Massi

Cate has been the resident stylist at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre for the past five years. Supporting women to feel their absolute best is the foundation of Cate’s business. When she’s not styling Channel 7 News Presenters or photoshoots for Southern Cross Austero, you can find her supporting charities such as Dress For Dignity. Cate has vast experience in the fashion industry and her understanding of the retail environment enables her to bring a wealth of knowledge to this discussion as our panel host.
