Future Planning: Wills & Executors
Event description
Have you got your plans in place?
No one likes to think too much about the tough stuff, but having a will and clear instructions can make a big difference for your loved ones.
Whether you're thinking ahead for yourself or supporting a family member, this session will help you understand the practical side of future planning — focusing on wills and being an executor.
It’s not just about legal documents — it’s about making things easier during what can be a very emotional time. Come along to learn what you can do now to ease the load later.
In this 'Wills Month' workshop we'll address issues like:
what should go in a will and how often should it be updated?
how to write a valid will to ensure probate will be granted in court/ that it will not be challenged
what do I do with a will once it is written?
how to find/ access a family member's will who dies suddenly?
what happens if you don't have a will?
what is an executor?
how and when should I appoint an executor?
what are my responsibilities if I am someone's executor?
John Sullivan from Community Law Canterbury will facilitate this FREE session at the Ashburton Library, Te Kete Tuhinga. There will be time to ask your own questions relating to Wills and being an executor.
After John's presentation Carolyn Clough from Advance Ashburton Community Foundation will briefly explain how those who wish to leave money for worthwhile community organisations and causes in Mid Canterbury can future plan for this.
People of all ages, cultures and backgrounds are welcome.
Please register - there are limited numbers, and last time we offered a similar session we had more than 100 people wanting to attend!
Organised by Keep Learning Mid Canterbury with the support of the Ashburton Library and Community Law Canterbury.
