Code for Australia is excited to be launching Future Practice - our new suite of educational offerings. As part of the launch, we're hosting a panel event about the future of digital capability building in the public sector.

The Panel

Our digital government and public sector experts will be tackling the topic of digital capability building in the Australian public sector - what we're currently missing, why it's vital, and what's next for the public servants in this space.

Randall Brugeaud - The Australian Government's Head of the Digital Profession

Randall is currently serving as the Head of the Digital Profession and the Head of the Australian Simplified Trade System Implementation Taskforce. Before these appointments, Randall spent almost 30 years working in a range of public and private sector roles, with a focus on transformation. His public sector experience has spanned large, medium and small organisations and his private sector experience includes more than a decade working with the Boston Consulting Group and a private IT consulting firm, which he founded and operated.

Sharni Allen - Former Director of NSW Design System

Sharni is a digital leader who helps teams across Government deliver world class customer experiences. With over 20 years experience in the private and public sector, Sharni has a range of experience across service design, UX, delivery and transformation. A Design System specialist, she is passionate about building digital capability within government, empowering teams with the tools and resources they need to work efficiently together, accelerate delivery and put the customer at the centre of everything they do.

Petrhyce Donovan - Digital Innovation & Smart Cities Expert

Petrhyce is a digital government expert helping Government in Australia to navigate the changing needs of customers and make services more accessible. She's worked for a handful of NSW Councils, including the largest in the state (the City of Canterbury Bankstown). She has led the delivery of some of the country's most innovative Smart City initiatives: including Closing the Loop on Waste, Asset AI, Future Street, SafeTV Schools and many more. Petrhyce's efforts leading City of Canterbury Bankstown through their innovation journey landed them the number 1 ranking of Most Innovative Australian Company for Government by the Australian Financial Review in 2021. Her expertise has also earned her multiple awards and invitations to speak at Harvard University, Irish Federal Government and New Zealand's Public Sector Network.

Matt Sawkill - Managing Director of Code for Australia

Matt has 20 years of experience in design-led digital agencies as a full-stack developer, technology consultant and team leader, and currently puts them all to good use at Code for Australia as Managing Director. Matt is obsessed with the craft and delivery of easy to use, accessible and performant digital services and products at scale. Open source software, web standards and human-centred design are the foundations of this approach. In his spare time, you’ll find him geeking out on food, music and movies.

About Future Practice

Future Practice is an umbrella term for our three educational offerings, two of which are brand new! Each of these offerings play a role in increasing digital maturity. We know there’s a great need in government for capability building and training and have designed Future Practice to meet three key needs that we’ve identified from public sector professionals:
