An intergenerational panel will discuss the inspiring and engaging opportunities for young people to participate in Australia’s space future. Hear space industry professionals, educators and students talk about turning STEM passions into meaningful learning experiences, as well as their own study and research pathways and what continues to inspire their practice. Speakers to include Ted Tagami, CEO and Co-founder, Magnitude.io; Sophie Poisel, Head of the Lang Walker Family Academy, Powerhouse; and students from East Hills Girls Technology High School and Parramatta Public School.

SPEAKERS

Ted Tagami is the CEO and co-founder of Magnitude.io, a US-based STEM education company that is launching its 10th mission to the International Space Station in 2022. Magnitude’s mission is to is to cultivate future scientists, engineers, and leaders through STEM experiences that ignite curiosity, inquiry, and ingenuity. Ted has also been the Education Chair on the ISS National Lab User Advisory Committee since 2020 and chair of the STEM non-profit Summer.org.

Sophie Poisel is the Head of the Lang Walker Family Academy at Powerhouse Parramatta. The recently launched academy will provide world-class immersive STEM education experiences for over 10,000 high school students from Western Sydney and regional NSW every year, with a focus on developing STEM skills and career pathways. Powerhouse Parramatta (currently under construction) will include four state-of-the-art education spaces plus dormitory rooms for students and teachers to stay at the museum. The Lang Walker Family Academy programs commenced in 2022 in with in-school STEM education programming for schools in Blacktown, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Bankstown, Penrith and Parramatta.

East Hills Girls Technology High School. Hear from students in Years 9 and 10 at the public comprehensive secondary school for girls in Panania, Canterbury-Bankstown LGA, who are participating in the Powerhouse Future Space program.

Parramatta Public School. Hear from students at the public co-education primary school in Parramatta about their STEM education interests and aspirations.
