Australian Consul-General Trade and Investment Commissioner, São Paulo, Brazil

Gabrielle is Australia’s next Consul General and Trade and Investment Commissioner based in São Paulo, Brazil, taking up her posting late April 2026. In this role, Gabrielle will also serve as Trade and Investment Commissioner to Colombia and Mexico.

Gabrielle is currently Australia’s Consul General and Trade and Investment Commissioner in Houston, Texas where she leads the Australian Government’s presence in Central South USA – Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

In her jurisdiction, Gabrielle oversees Houston’s consular, passports and crisis preparedness/response; drives trade and investment performance across a broad range of sectors including energy, agribusiness and food, health and space; and facilitates public diplomacy and political engagement through her representational work, in close collaboration with DFAT and the Australian Embassy in Washington DC.

Prior to her posting in Houston, Gabrielle has held various positions with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in the Latin American region: A/g Trade Commissioner in Santiago, Chile (2020), and across business development roles in Mexico (2019) and Colombia (2016).

Gabrielle has also held various roles onshore in Austrade’s Trade and Investment Divisions, across a broad range of sectors (2016-2019).

Prior to joining the Australian Government, Gabrielle was a locally engaged officer for the foreign governments of Chile and Uruguay, often collaborating with other Latin American diplomatic presences to deliver joint public diplomacy initiatives, trade and tourism promotion.

Gabrielle holds a Graduate Certificate in International Relations and Political Economy from the Australian National University (2013) and a Bachelor of Arts, Spanish Major, from the University of Queensland (2007-2012). Recently, with the support of Austrade, Gabrielle completed a course in Executive Presence and Influence from Wharton Business School’s Executive Education (2025).

Gabrielle participated in a UQ Abroad Exchange Program in 2011 to Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago. Upon returning from her exchange program she attended the UQ Latin American Colloquium, where she met one of the visiting Ambassadors. Based on a verbal agreement, she went to Canberra for an unpaid internship at the Embassy of Uruguay – this experience laid the foundation which formalised UQ’s Embassy Internship Program.

Gabrielle will be taking up a role as Senior Adjunct Lecturer with UQ’s School of Languages and Cultures in 2026.
