Description

ABOUT THE EVENT:

At 70, Gail Rice hired an escort and asked for a refund. The scandal, it turned out, was the asking. She talks with Yumi Stynes about More Than a MILF, where thirty writers raise their voices on sex, ageing and desire.

On Wednesday 2nd December at The Royal Oak, Balmain, join Gail Rice in conversation with Yumi Stynes.

Copies of More Than A MILF will be available for purchase at the venue through Roaring Stories, with Rice signing copies after the discussion.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The Royal Oak, one of Balmain's oldest and most loved pubs has been hosting Roaring Stories author events since the inception of our events program.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. The event bar on L1 is serving drinks from 6.30pm and also following the author talk. Seating is unallocated – another reason to arrive early to secure an optimal spot. Why not make a full evening of it, too, by ordering a meal at the Royal Oak before or after the event? To make a dinner reservation before or after the event, simply click on the restaurant reservation link here.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A 70-year-old psychologist in Australia hires an escort. When he doesn't give her what she asked for, she emails to request a refund. A middle-aged woman in Lebanon is in the middle of a ménage à trois when bombs start exploding around the building. A teacher in their fifties reflects on decades of queer sex in Canada and concludes that they would rather eat cheese.

Featuring thirty diverse and disruptive voices, these stories both celebrate pleasure and interrogate why so much shame and pain still haunt the terrain. In conversation with one another and the current midlife zeitgeist, they ask: How can women and nonbinary people age erotically, playfully and unapologetically?

Key contributors include: Gail Rice, Chrissy King, Abbe Aronson, Nicole Yellow Robe, Jowita Bydlowska, Treena Orchard and Andrea Zanin.
