    Event description

Gailla and friends present: Reading The Room! this is a live music and writing event held at Lazy Thinking in Dulwich Hill on Wangal/Gadigal land. For each set, there will be booklets of lyrics to accompany the songs being performed. We are inviting the audience to engage with the songs by writing their feelings/responses in these booklets as they listen along. There is minimal seating inside - please arrive early to find a spot to sit if you would like to sit for the duration of the show.

Gailla creates golden folk-pop songs that delve into stories of climate optimism, despair, heartbreak, community and interdependence with our natural world and ourselves. With her band, she has toured across NSW, VIC and QLD and has played over 10 festivals and 30 venues in Australia, including at activist events such as campaign launches and at the Blockade of the World's Largest Coalport in Newcastle/Muloobinba. In 2023, she embarked on her Public Transport Tour, committing to only travelling via public transport from NSW to VIC. 2024 sees the release of her debut EP in October with a tour to celebrate.

Leila is an experimental/alternative artist, composer and producer. They combine their eclectic training and influences to blur genre constraints. Her music is a unique blend of operatic and theatrical vocals, lush orchestral arrangements and electronic production. Leila has written for and worked across bands, choirs, orchestras, operas, ensembles and theatre and performed at venues ranging from the Sydney Opera House to Sydney Biennale. After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2023, Leila is excited to begin sharing music in anticipation of her debut album in October 2024. She is passionate about diversity and dissidence (of sonic and personal varieties) and is particularly inspired by magic, literature, history, peculiar women and her cats.

Madelaine De Leon is a 4 '11 " indie folk singer-songwriter, dreaming up magic, soulful songs about soup, autumn, love and life. Think Corinne Bailey Rae meets Lily Allen meets Norah Jones, but wrapped up in Madelaine’s very own heartwarming and original stories. She released a set of singles throughout 2023 and 2024 to accompany the change of each season.
