Get to know the story behind the works of Canberra Glassworks latest exhibition

Join Walgalu/Wiradjuri artist Aidan Hartshorn at Canberra Glassworks for an artist talk and demonstration in conjunction with his exhibition Fulcrum. This special public event invites audiences into the heart of Aidan’s practice, which explores the cultural and environmental impacts of industrialisation in the high country of New South Wales.

Growing up in Tumut, where the Tumut and Murrumbidgee Rivers meet, Aidan’s work is deeply informed by personal and ancestral connections to Walgalu Country—an area profoundly transformed by the Snowy Hydro Scheme. Through his use of commercial glass and lighting, Aidan investigates themes of colonisation, environmental degradation, and cultural resilience. His work reflects on the power of infrastructure—not just as a physical force, but as a symbol of displacement and control.

Drawing from the ANU Sharing Stories program and his family's tradition of passing on knowledge through making, Aidan will share insights into how creative practice can be a tool for cultural connection and truth-telling. The demonstration offers a rare opportunity to see his process up close and to reflect on how First Nations perspectives can enrich our understanding of place, history, and reconciliation.
