Gallery Floor Talk: Will Lynes and Bronte Cormican-Jones
Event description
Get to know the story behind the works of Canberra Glassworks latest exhibitions
Artist and designer Will Lynes, alongside emerging artist Bronte Cormican Jones, presents solo exhibitions that explore the role of window glass in traditional decorative arts and architecture. Across two exhibitions, these works offer a contemporary interpretation of one of the most important materials in the modern world.
A classically trained gilder, Lynes delves into the tension between precision and imperfection. He explores the historical and artistic relationship between glass and painted lettering, rooted in traditional signwriting techniques such as reverse glass painting and gilding, blending art and advertising.
Cormican-Jones responds to the architectural space of the Smokestack, investigating how we physically interact with industrial glass in both everyday and gallery contexts. This exhibition explores how glass can shape the way we perceive space, light, and our own presence within the urban landscape.
This event is open to the public and suitable for anyone interested in contemporary art, glassmaking, and cultural dialogue.
