Galup VR experience and presentation event
Come along to experience a truth telling virtual reality work created by Noongar theatre-maker Ian Wilkes and artist/filmmaker Poppy van Oorde-Grainger. Elder Doolann-Leisha Eatts relates an oral history about one of the first massacres in Western Australia. It took place on May 3rd 1830 at Galup (formerly known as Lake Monger).
The Galup experience consists of two events, firstly a talk by one of the creators giving some background to the making of the experience. Next, a series of six immersive Virtual Reality sessions will be held during the day.

What to expect:
The day begins with a talk including a short video and slides regarding the making of the experience.
There will follow a series of immersive Virtual Reality group sessions (up to 15 people per session).
Each event is separate so you must book into the event/session you want to attend.
Those attending the VR experience will need to be comfortable wearing a VR headset.
If attending one of the VR sessions, you will be asked to sign a waiver on the day. See 'More information' below for more details.

"The virtual reality (VR) work shines light on a story that’s been hidden for almost 200 years. The work is set at Galup (Lake Monger), an ancient wetland in the heart of suburban Perth, visited daily by hundreds of people that are unaware of its buried history. Galup VR Experience fuses virtual reality technology with oral history and storytelling to highlight the origins of ongoing injustices in Australia and to bring people together for connection and healing" The VR sessions last for half an hour and are limited to 15 people per session. A place in a VR session must be booked separately to the presentation/talk.

You will be asked to sign a waiver on the day: RISK WAIVER - GALUP I understand that I will be participating in a virtual reality (VR) experience provided by Same Drum Pty Ltd (ABN: 826 438 809 97) as part of the Galup Art Project. I understand the following risks associated with VR experiences: ● They are highly immersive and can feel extremely realistic at times and may include experiences that are frightening, thrilling and/or entertaining. ● They are not recommended for people who are ill, extremely tired, under emotional stress, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or who have an infectious disease or contagious skin condition, and they are not recommended without consulting a doctor first for people who are pregnant, elderly or have serious medical conditions, including a heart condition, psychiatric disorder, binocular vision abnormalities, seizures and epilepsy or have a medical device such as pacemaker or hearing aids. ● Some people may experience nausea, disorientation, vertigo, seizures and epilepsy-related symptoms, motion sickness, general discomfort, headaches, anxiety or other physical, mental or health-related injuries when experiencing VR. I confirm that my participation is voluntary and that I do not have any known physical, mental or health-related conditions that should preclude or restrict my participation. I assume all associated risks and take full responsibility for these and any other consequences that may arise from my participation.
