What We'll Do

We’ll start at 2.00 pm with a welcome and introduction. We like to visit a range of different gardens, each as unique as the gardeners who live there. It’s wonderful to see the diverse garden styles, approaches, and plants that can be grown in our bioregion.

So this month Ruth Carson will take us on a tour of her new 1 acre garden that she's creating solo at Goombungee.

What We'll See

  • A one acre house block in town.
  • Rose & native garden out the front.
  • Flower, natives & raised vegetable garden out the back.
  • Along with chickens, ducks & quails.
  • Native bees, meal worms, composting worms.
  • Plus numerous forms of composting waste produces.
  • Lots of birds, insects.
  • Maybe the blue tongue lizards will show their faces!

Then out on the back half acre

  • Beginnings of very young ‘food forest’ organic orchard.
  • Swales.
  • Mostly no dig gardening except for first 30 holes for fruit trees.
  • Use of edible flowering plants/ herbs in guilds to support fruit trees.

The Story Behind the Garden

A few words from Ruth:

  • I'm creating this garden rolling solo.
  • I've always loved the garden; it’s my happy place.
  • I moved into this property in February 2022.
  • I have lots of plans and dreams for my place.
  • It's still very early stages.
  • "Young at heart…slightly older in other parts" - that's me & my garden!
