Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum with the New Vitruvians

Join the New Vitruvians for a tour of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, one of Boston’s most atmospheric and architecturally significant landmarks.

Completed in 1902 and inspired by 15th-century Venetian palaces, the museum was designed by Willard T. Sears in close collaboration with Isabella Stewart Gardner, who shaped both the building and its remarkable collection.

The tour will highlight the original palace building and its iconic courtyard, where arches, columns, and architectural fragments from across history—Roman, Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance—come together to create a uniquely immersive space. We’ll get a glimpse into Gardner’s vision for the museum as a total work of art, where architecture, interiors, and collections are deeply intertwined—an approach that continues to inspire artists, designers, and architects today.
