GASLIT with Jane Fonda Screening Darwin
Description
As more frequent and severe climate disasters send a deadly warning to the world, with the NT forecast to be unliveable due to climate change within a couple of generations, the gas industry is seeking to rapidly expand.
In GASLIT, Academy Award-winning actor and activist Jane Fonda ventures deep into the US oil and gas country, meeting the people who are exposing the fossil fuel industry’s lies, and fighting back.
The parallels between the Texas oil fields and Gulf Coast communities explored in GASLIT, and the Northern Territory are stark. The NT is viewed as a “sacrifice zone” for the gas industry in Australia, with communities already facing serious health impacts from gas pollution, and Trump-backed US gas companies expanding into the territory.
Join us at Brown’s Mart Theatre on Tuesday 20th October for a screening of GASLIT, followed by a panel discussion of local experts and gas campaigners. Speakers for this event include Dr Louise Woodard of Community Healthy Air Northern Territory (CHANT), Kate Smolski, Program Director of Greenpeace Australia Pacific, and Sarah Wilson, Climate Campaigner at Environment Centre Northern Territory.
This event is a collaboration between Greenpeace Australia Pacific, Frack Free NT and CHANT.
