Exhibition Opening | Gathered in the Afterlight

Join us to celebrate the opening of Gathered in the Afterlight, with a curatorial introduction at 2.30pm by guest curator Stephanie Martin.

The works in this exhibition animate landscape as living memory, where the past saturates the present. Across portrait and landscape, between figure and ground, tactile spaces are formed through gesture, repetition and material transformation. Archives, maps, mangrove, fibre and other stores of memory are recomposed, bringing layered histories into play and renewing connections to ancestral places.

Working from Mparntwe/Alice Springs and Tennant Creek in the Central Desert, Patjarr in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, Larrakia Country in Darwin, Gundungurra and Dharawal Country in Mittagong, and Wurundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne, each artist offers a distinct perspective. The exhibition explores how relationships to land are conveyed in contemporary art.
