Gavin Coote X Playstate Presents: Mounted Trout Salesmen and Other Uncouth Characters - Opening Night

Playstate is thrilled to announce our collaboration with national treasure and all-round good guy Gavin Coote. Mounted Trout Salesmen and Other Uncouth Characters follows a rag-tag group of animal-like characters who’ve disembarked from the train in Newy - having travelled from slightly further afield. We meet a sleep-deprived rabbit who’s strayed out to the abandoned OAK Factory at Hexham, a tattered bird causing chaos in the CBD, and many other misfits who take on an animal form, but undoubtedly contain more human characteristics than your usual gang of fauna. The exhibition uses humour and absurdity to explore themes of isolation, and the uneasy relationship between animals and urban landscapes. 

Gavin Coote is a painter, printmaker and journalist from north-west NSW and currently based in Sydney. His work has been  exhibited in major regional galleries including at Wollongong, Broken  Hill, Orange and Gunnedah. Comparable to Reg Mombasa & Ralph Steadmen, Gavin's work's border the abnormal, with an abstract approach to social commentary.

Join us on the 9th of August from 6:30PM to celebrate Gavin's works and his debut Newcastle Exhibition. Original works, prints and merch will be available for purchase on the night.
