Gaza Nippers Hope Amid Devastation

From the shores of Gaza to the big screen, Gaza Nippers - Hope Amid Devastation is a powerful and deeply moving documentary directed by Majed Badra, revealing the resilience, hope and heartbreak of Gaza’s children.

Two young men from Gaza were brought to Australia in 2019 by the Northern Beaches Committee for Palestine to train as surf lifesavers at North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club in Manly.

On their return they set up a Nippers programme along Australian lines for Gaza’s children and drew up plans to build the first surf lifesaving club in the Middle East. But after one successful season, several of these children and supporting adults have been killed in Israel’s bombardment.

This 53 minute documentary reveals the inspiring story of children learning to swim, surf and find moments of joy in the waves - even as they face unimaginable loss and heartbreak. Through their eyes, we witness a Gaza rarely seen: full of courage, community and the enduring spirit of childhood.
