Event description

Gaza: The Crucible of the Palestinian Resistance

Palestine and the western complicity in the Zionist colonisation, ethnic cleansing and genocide

  • How does the tragedy of the 1948 Nakba feature in the collective memory of Palestinians in light of the current genocide in Gaza?

  • How significant is the recent voting of the International Association of Genocide Scholars voting that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza

  • How did the Palestinians get to this state of disunity and fragmentation in the face of the Israeli system of oppression and colonisation? What are the main factors perpetuating this division?

  • What does it mean for the Palestinians that some of the major Western countries, including France, UK and Australia, intend to recognise the state of Palestine this month?

  • What is our vision for liberation in Palestine? Does Zionism feature anywhere in that vision? How to we activate to achieve that vision?

To answer all these questions and more, please join us in this in-depth discussion with Dr Ghada Karmi.

Dr Ghada Karmi is a Palestinian doctor, activist, academic and writer. She was born in Palestine and then had to flee with her family during the Nakba in 1948 when it became Israel. She grew up in Britain and now she's a doctor, author, academic, and well-know international commentator on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Dr Karmi still vividly remembers a huge bombing just behind her house in Jerusalem. "It was absolutely dreadful. I was bewildered, I was scared - I could see my parents were scared, which is very scary for a child because you think your parents know it all and they look after you. I knew, from that moment on, things had changed for us. I didn't know how, but things weren't going to be the same again."

Please join us in this highly educational discussion with Dr Karmi and come equipped with as many questions as you may have: Thursday the 18th of September at 7PM AEST Via Zoom.

This event is hosted by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney
