WICKED WORDS Storytelling at the GAZE BACK Wicked Women exhibition
Event description
Come hear dyke icons from our Wicked past and present share wondrous tales in a gallery space surrounded by archival prints that jump off the wall with unapologetic queer desire.
The line-up includes trailblazers of the community as well as readings from contemporary writers of queer and trans erotica.
Patrons will also get to see a screening of archival footage of Ms Wicked shows in a night of recollection and reconnection.
Our invitation extends beyond OG members of the wicked community to younger generations keen to learn and experience the zeitgeisty atmosphere of the 1990s!
Wicked Women (1988–96) was a delectable zine published by Jasper and Lisa thirty years ago when they decided Australian dykes deserved raunchy representation. The zine evolved into a magazine that sparked a revolution in lesbian circles of inner city Sydney and Melbourne.
Honouring the Queer Gaze is just as relevant today as it was in the 1990s when Wicked Women first celebrated the diversity of expression in our community. We'd love to see you there!
