    Event description

Did you know there's a fascinating hidden life below the surface of Tallebudgera creek? Have you heard some of the local cultural stories?

An adventure awaits you discovering the hidden life of Tallebudgera Creek and learning local cultural stories.

Join us for this exciting Gecko Walk and Talk by the creek with Dr Sally Gregory, a researcher, adventurer and advocate for protecting Tallebudgera's amazing creek life. Sally is a local legend also known as the Tallebudgera Creek Fairy, who with a band of volunteers 'Hooked on Tallebudgera Creek Clean Up Crew' regularly dives to retrieve rubbish causing harm to aquatic life.  Share in Sally's surprising encounters on these underwater adventures... with colourful nudibranchs, an array of fish, moray eels, even inquisitive octopus. Learn about seagrass and Aboriginal fish traps and how we can help to protect these precious places right here in the city.

After our short walk we then return to Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre for a slide show of the hidden underwater world of Tally Creek, and to discover some of Jellurgal's cultural stories.

Stay and chat with new friends to share stories and yummy morning tea. Finger food refreshments will be provided and Jellurgal have tea and coffee for sale.

This inaugural Gecko Walk and Talk features Sally The Tallebudgera Creek Fairy and is made possible with thanks to the staff and manager Paul Roberts of the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre.
