Generations of Pride + Q&A Panel

Generations of Pride is a documentary film exploring the LGBTQI+ history of Newcastle, Australia, as told by those who lived it. 

The film chronicles the lived experiences of Newcastle's LGBTQI+ community across generations. From the dark days of discrimination and persecution to the bright moments of celebration, resistance, and pride.

It captures raw, honest, and powerful stories passed down through communities, some being shared publicly for the first time. 

While deeply rooted in Newcastle, these local and intergenerational stories reflect experiences shared by LGBTQI+ communities around the world. This is a film for the entire community. 

The University of Newcastle Library provided funding to support the production of this important documentary and contributed archival footage, oral histories, photographs, and documentary materials from the Archives and within Living Histories, helping to preserve and share these significant stories.

The Shaping Futures Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to help students most in need.

The $5000 University of Newcastle LGBTQIA+ Shaping Futures Scholarship supports LGBTQIA+ students who are managing study alongside other personal circumstances.

Do I need a ticket to attend? Yes, this is a free event but seating is limited. Please reserve your seat to guarantee entry.

How long is the documentary? The film will start at 7pm and documentary runs for approximately 65 minutes, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

Who will be at the Q&A? The Q&A will feature the director and several community members featured in the documentary who shared their stories on film.

Can I bring guests? Absolutely! Please reserve seats for each person attending so we can ensure everyone has a place.

What if I can't make it after I've reserved? Please let us know as soon as possible so we can open your seat to others in the community.

Is this suitable for all ages? This documentary contains discussions of historical discrimination. Recommended for ages 12+
