Event description

Maintaining profitability and sustainability through hotter, dryer conditions.

Changes in climate are already evident in WA with reduced rainfall, hotter temperatures, longer heat waves and an increase in extreme fire weather days. WA has been successfully adapting to these challenges - but as the climate continues to change further adaptation will be needed.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) invite you to contribute to a climate adaptation plan for the Western Australian (WA) livestock and crop industries.
The workshop will focus on:
  • future climate projections in the Great Southern region
  • the impact on the cropping and livestock industries
  • what risks climate change presents to the industry
  • future scenarios and adaptative behaviours required maintain a sustainable and profitable business.
Your participation will help:
  • inform government on the future needs of your sector
  • identify measures, policies and programs to enable adaptation and retain viable businesses
  • increase the adaptation capacity for industry and businesses.

Workshop outcomes will contribute to the primary production component of the Western Australian government's Climate Adaptation Plan.
View the WA Climate Strategy for more details.

Please note:
The workshops will not be discussing mitigation (greenhouse gas emissions reduction and carbon sequestration). The WA Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategy (SERS) engages with these issues and the challenges of reaching net zero by 2050.
