Georges Lammam and Friends
Event description
Please join us at the Mazza Castle for an evening of music highlighting a number of cultural influences and including original works by extraordinary Palestinian violinist, Georges Lammam.
Georges is of Palestinian descent and was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He is well-known in the Middle East and the United States as a solo violinist, exemplifying the Arab style of instrumental improvisation and lyricism.
Georges has performed at prestigious venues such as the San Francisco World Music Festival, The Legion of Honor Museum, the De Young Museum in San Francisco, and The Fine Arts Cinema in Berkeley, among many other local and national stages. Mr. Lammam is well-versed in the beautiful repertory of classical and popular Arabic music.
He serves as an instructor of violin and Arabic singing at the annual Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino, California. He has also taught Arabic music ensemble and vocal classes at various institutions, including the University of California at Berkeley, Humboldt State University, Santa Fe College, Middlebury College in Vermont, and most recently at the music retreat at Holyoke College in Connecticut, under the direction of Simon Shaheen and A. J. Racy.
In 2009, Mr. Lammam toured the United States with the Aswat Orchestra under the direction of Simon Shaheen, in a series of concerts representing the Golden Age of Arab Music, presented in association with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He also collaborates with other world musicians, including Southeast Asian, Shabazz, Persian-inspired Niyaz with Azam Ali, and the Bay Area-based group Ancient Future.
