Event description

Georgia is the cradle of wine and has a fascinating wine culture and history dating back over 8000 years. The Georgian speciality winemaking method of fermenting and ageing wine on it's skins in Qvervi (large clay vessels) is a big part of their heritage and cultural pride.

We are delighted to be welcoming Master of Wine, Sarah Abbott to our shop in St Albans to host this insightful wine tasting all about Georgia and its long winemaking heritage. We will take a look into the ancient Qvevri winemaking tradition that dates back millennia and is recognised by UNESCO for intangible cultural heritage, we will also look at wines made using modern wine making techniques. We will taste wines from producers of different sizes, age and scale of production. Georgian wine, gastronomy and tourism are increasingly worth talking about, so we will touch on these subjects of course.

Taste 7 wines that have been selected by our buyer Penny Edwards on her recent trip to Georgia and take a journey with us through the fascinating cultural heritage and contemporary appeal of Georgian wine.

Check out our exciting range of Georgian wines on our website and read all about Penny's trip to Georgia here.

An evening not to be missed! We will be serving traditional Georgian food catered by a local caterer with Georgian roots called Maija's Georgian Kitchen. Please contact Penny and Geraldine at the shop directly if you have any dietary requirements or allergies. email: sales@cellardoorwines.co.uk or call: 01727 85 44 88
