Geospatial Toolbox for Disaster Resilience - CSIRO

This workshop will introduce CSIRO’s geospatial toolbox for disaster resilience research.

Participants will learn the basics of geospatial processing for use in disaster resilience work.

All materials will be provided to allow participants to follow along with worked-out examples and exercises on geospatial risk assessment using their own personal laptops. Topics covered will include:

• Geostack, an open-source GPU-accelerated toolkit for high performance geospatial processing, modelling and analysis in Python,

• Spark Research, a cloud-hosted version of Australia’s national fire simulator launched in Feb 2025 and available to researchers for fire behaviour modelling and analysis.

• Practical applications with worked-out examples in bushfire, flood, and evacuation risk modelling.

Skills: Basic experience with Python and Jupyter is desirable but not essential. No experience with geospatial processing or natural hazard or risk modelling is presumed.

Attendees must bring their own computer and be over the age of 18.
