PEPA aims to improve health professionals’ knowledge, skills and confidence in the palliative approach to care and end of life care.

Program Objective:

PEPA aims to improve health professionals’ knowledge, skills and confidence in the palliative approach to care for people with a life-limiting illness.

The workshops are interactive and provide time for discussion through case presentations and examples (some aspects of the program may change due to circumstances beyond our control).

Intended workshop audience: Nurses currently working in the Community setting (within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District catchment area) interested in gaining knowledge of a palliative approach to care.

Aim of workshop: Develop an understanding of a palliative approach for people with a life-limiting illness and their families.

Topics include: introduction and philosophy of palliative care; palliative care emergencies and how to identify them; breathlessness (pharmacological and non-pharmacological management); Caring@Home; head to toe assessment; Pain (assessment and management); overview of PEPA and placement opportunities.
