Get It Together • A New Play
Event description
Get It Together tells the story of Mary Hewitt, an aspiring poet from Philadelphia on the cusp of her life, as she falls for and rages against Harold Kruger, her Main Line paramour she just can't figure out. Set across two nights two years apart, the comedy follows the pair through heartbreak, grief, and anxious desire as they question: What the hell is wrong with my family? Do cheaters ever quit? And who will understand me, if not you?
The play arrives at the Flea Theater for a limited run starring Hadley Durkee and Joseph Basquill, produced by Andie Lerner, and written and directed by the Yale Drama Prize-shortlisted playwright Michael Quinn. The production features scenic and prop design by Lily Guerin, lighting design by Kristen Paige, sound design by Julianne Mason, and costumes by Lisa Zinni (Six).
Get It Together, first workshopped at Boston College under the direction of Scott T. Cummings, comes to New York by way of a 2022 Los Angeles production at the Zephyr Theater. The New York productions retains the same cast and features a newly revised second act. Critics called previous iterations “incredibly funny and intensely relatable,” “stunningly authentic,” and “perfectly cast.”
“This is a play for now. The references are youthful, but not contrived, simply stunningly authentic, laser focused on who these two people actually are. They open up to each other in ways they can barely understand.” – NoHo Arts District
Get It Together is recommended for ages 16 and up. The play contains strong language and allusions to mature themes. Tickets available at door. The show runs two hours; there is a fifteen minute intermission.
