Hawkeye Publishing takes a different approach to its business practice and relationships with writers. From big picture issues to the details that matter, Carolyn will share her views on the exciting things happening in the publishing industry and will give good and bad examples of how to pitch to a publishing house. Carolyn will be interviewed by Vivienne Wynter publisher of The Pineapple magazine.
Carolyn Martinez is the Director of Hawkeye Publishing, and an editor with 30 years experience. She moved from newspapers into books, and has a MA (Writing) and Grad Dip (Management). Hawkeye became a trade house in 2019 and now has a stable of exceptional Australian authors. Carolyn (pen name Cate Sawyer) is the co-author of the bestselling writing guide Winning Short Story Competitions: Essential Tools for the Serious Writer. Hawkeye’s success was featured in In Review, In Daily Queensland. Carolyn is a multiple nominee for the Queensland Writers’ Centre’s Johnno Award for outstanding service to writers and writing. She’s particularly known for nurturing writers, and editing tautologies to sharpen pace.
Vivienne Wynter started her career as an arts reporter with ABC Radio’s Arts National program. She read the news at Radio 4CA in Cairns and Radio 4BC in Brisbane and taught journalism and writing at Griffith University for 20 years. She has published creative writing in several anthologies and freelance journalism in several capital city newspapers. These days Vivienne lives on the Sunshine Coast and publishes The Pineapple, a digital news magazine. She just finished writing her first novel: Sunny, an autobiographical fiction work about leaving your family and keeping them at the same time.
